Thai Massage for Relaxation
Thai Massage combines passive stretching, yoga-like positions and deep pressure to decrease muscle tension. Come dressed for the treatment in loose clothing like running or yoga pants, shorts and a T-shirt. The treatment is done on a large padded mat on the floor.
The Movement Therapy Clinic uses Thai Massage in place of swedish relaxation massage. It serves to stretch out tightness and increase the amount of oxygen in your system. Use this for intense stress relief and and full mind-body integration.
Thai Massage for Athletes
Thai Massage has many benefits for runners and triathletes. Primarily, it improves flexibility and range of motion allowing for freer movement of the joints. But also it rejuvenates the muscular and nervous system by increasing blood circulation. Most people feel more relaxed and energized following a Thai Massage. Because runners and triathletes have specialized needs (training season timing considerations and specific injuries), my treatments differ from a Traditional Thai Massage in that we focus more joint and muscle movements and less on overall well-being and energy flow (Traditional Thai Massage focuses more on energy meridians).
For general maintenance of their muscles and soft-tissue, most runners and triathletes receive Thai Massage on a monthly basis.
“I’ve been going to April for over four years. During that time, I rediscovered my love for running. I am currently training for my first marathon and I wouldn’t have gotten here without her!! Her thai massage keeps me relaxed and aligned. She is an integral partner in my training plans plus, as an added bonus, she’s a great cheerleader! It’s hard to explain all the benefits that I derive from Thai massage so I’ll just say that I highly recommend it for any and all runners. Do yourself and your body a favor and book a massage with April right this second!! – Jess, runner
(Jess completed her second marathon in Eugene in 2010 and said after finishing, “I could have run a littler further.”)
